Extremely slow in the drive-through I always have to put my car in park. This place is conveniently located near my house. Which is nice. But is also close to the freeway. You think that they'd have a massive Drive through team during peak morning hours pushing out the coffee like there is no tomorrow but they don't

Every time I've visited this location, the drive-thru line is insane. The line usually wraps around into the busy intersection in front of Home Depot, so it gets chaotic and people get angry, etc. I've had to leave because people start lining up in the parking lot, while other people in the intersection are still in line. It's confusing to explain, but if you've been there you know what I mean. Aside from that, the staff has always been extremely friendly and my drinks are made fine. Just avoid the drive-thru if possible.

This Starbucks, although in a good location, frequently gets backed up in the drive-thru line. Now, this may just be an indication that Starbucks is in high demand, seemingly at every and any location. This particular location however doesn't have the proper parking lot set up to accommodate more than 5-6 cars, and the several times i've come, there are 8,9,10 cars flooded out into the plaza drive, waiting to get order their beverage of choice. I recommend parking, walking in, and ordering over the counter. The customer service is true to what you'd expect from Starbucks, and the drink/food has always been on point.

The location of this Starbucks paired with the drive-thru window make it a regular stop for me. Some of the familiar faces at the window are super friendly. The drinks are always just as I expect them to be. They do great moving the excessive line of drive-thru traffic they receive. I would agree with others who've commented that service inside isn't quite as good as the drive-thru... but for those of us who are only looking for a quick way to grab our over-priced espresso beverages while in the comfort of our gas guzzlers, this spot does it well.

This is the Starbucks that has the distinction of being the closest to my parents house, so whenever I'm up for the Holiday's they usually get at least some of my business. They have always been nice and friendly and I've never had any kind of problem. Just what you want from the neighborhood coffee joint that has taken over the world.

Dare you brave the left-hand turn off 12 Mile into the most congested parking lot in Madison Heights (though Costco comes a very close second)? If the beguiling song of the green siren overcomes your resistance, take comfort knowing you enter one of the nicer Starbucks in the Detroit metro area. Despite the line-up forever snaking around the building, the drive-through offers expedient service and relative accuracy most of the time. The friendly staff do a fine job confirming your order over the speaker system, and their menu boards give a full accounting of the typical drinks. Unless nearby Biggby on John R, they almost always carry the seasonal specials as soon as their advertising goes up, a point to Starbucks favour. On the other hand, their bakery case seems depleted by 8:46 AM, so don't count on getting that scone before you hit the road. Drinks come quick and correct, even if you require soy, no-foam, two sugar-free pumps of almond and one of full caramel, skinny vanilla latte. This Starbucks has processing payment down to an artform, sweeping me through with orderly precision to get onto the next order. Yet I never feel totally rushed or unwelcome, part of the conceit raised by the corporation. You'll be in more danger from a caffeine deprived driver than any threat of spillage or wallet dings. Everything you can expect about a Starbucks franchise is true here -- tidy menu boards, music being hawked, lots of objects for sale, and cramped seating occupied by the same cast in a sitcom of some kind. I almost never take my drinks inside, having to brave a dash across the parking lot of doom. My one complaint: stay open later. I swear they seem to close at 8 PM, and on a Friday or a Saturday when I have my steamed apple cider or a caramel macchiato craving, where can I get my hit? Don't you dare say Woodward at 13, a mile and a half from the house. What fun would that be, and it doesn't have a drive through!

I love Starbucks and used to go to the Oak Park location on my way to work. I changed jobs now the Madison hgts location is on my way to work. I am going to have to go out of my way to go to oak park where they actually got my order right and were gracious every time I gave them a tip. Not all the employees at this location are rude only one or two but they NEVER get my drink right!

I can only speak for the times I go in, which is usually between 5:30am and noon, and my morning crew are some of the best people to walk on this earth. If you have a problem with "slow drive through", you need to remember that each and every coffee, latte, mocha, and specialty drink is made by hand. Most often, any drinks with steamed milk is going to take minimum of three minutes. If you went inside, you would see everybody working and running around to make sure your order is 100% how you like it, on top of making coffee for everybody else in front of you, too. If the drive through is slow, learn to leave your house according to coffee drive through time, and accept that other people buy expensive slow, hand made coffee too. And that we don't have a problem waiting behind 5 cars (that's an estimated 10 minute wait), because we know that the people inside are working hard for me, and you, and everybody else. The people who work here are amazing. The only reason why I don't use the drive through is when it's backed up. And that's not because I'm impatient. It's because of the location. When the traffic backs up, people don't know how to adjust accordingly, and then half the drive is blocked. That gives me anxiety. That's not Starbucks fault. That's the customers. So, I'm not gonna get irritated at Starbucks, for their customers not knowing how to make a decent line with their cars. I'm going to yell at the line of cars backed up and blocking traffic, park, walk inside, (this is where you'd be able to check your Facebook or yelp, without worrying about the traffic in front of you or behind you), say hi to the nicest people ever, get my caffeine and go to work.

Visited this shop frequently when I worked at 12 & John R. Staff has always been very friendly and service is prompt and accurate. During one of my trips, a crazy lady jumped ahead of me and took my drink... the staff apologized profusely (even though she was the insane one, not the staff!) and offered to give me a discount. I declined, but the gesture was appreciated!

I tend to frequent this Starbucks location because it's relatively close to my house. I tend to avoid the drive thru, mostly because it's backed up clear into the Home Depot parking lot. It's usually faster to park the car and walk. The coffee is consistent, the staff is friendly, and being able to pay with my Starbucks app makes me a happy, happy girl.

    (4)
  • N P.

I just read about the impromptu "pay it forward" that happened here today. One customer paying for the next, setting up a chain reaction of 50 customers in a row doing the same. That's the true holiday spirit. Hopefully we can all "pay it forward" in other ways too and all enjoy the holidays.

  • Tricia H.

I frequent this place at least 3X a week as it's a hop, skip and a jump from 75 and on my way downtown for work. The gals who work here are SO nice and chipper. Drinks are always right - once got a free drink coupon for waiting too long in the drive through line.

  • Haroun K.

I'd never been in a Starbucks so dominated by drive-thru business. It felt like being in McDonalds, actually. The clientele was mostly middle-aged business people, and lone people on laptops who never seemed to be satisfied with the position of the window shades. The din was not conducive to studying, and the drive-thru baristas seemed pretty harried. The parking lot is an illustration of what driving used to be like before the advent of traffic laws. It was insanity. Maybe it's the caffeine or the breakfast sandwiches, but watch out for the crazy drivers! Anyhow, the shop is very small, and was not conducive to studying (for me), so I won't be back voluntarily.

    (3)

Worst service I ever received at a coffee shop. Staff more concerned with chit chat than customers. AVOID if possible

I wish I could give two reviews...one for my drive-thru experience and one for my dine-in. First, I'll start with the good. I go to thr drive-thru window about 4x a week on my way to errands. Even with a long line, the drinks come fairly quick. But better than quick, they give excellent service. They recognize my drink, they know my dog by name (and HIS choice of beverage which is only whipped cream by the cup-full). It's never disappointed. Now let's go on to the negative...the dine-in experience. First off, Starbuck cannot control its weird customers (some who sit within an inch of you chomping ice or stand within your "personal bubble"). Sure, I can't fault Sbux for those folks. I'll skip the usual "overpriced drinks" complain, since it's so cliche. You pretty much know what the prices are, and if you don't want to pay them there's a 7-11 down the street for your Big Gulp of coffee for $1. The constant babbling chatter of staff, however, really needs to be curbed. It's as bad as babysitting a toddler who has just eaten a sackful of Halloween candy and drank a triple espresso. Constant. Loud. Yelling. Bad cheesy jokes. Obnoxious as hell. Basically a bad stream-of-conscious at the top of their lungs, sorta like an old Alanis Morresette song from the 90s. I hate to be a bitch, I really do...but come on. I just paid $5 for a coffee to get away from my noisy house to get just a teeny bit of work done. Is it too much to ask for a semi-chill coffee house experience? i think I'll stick to the drive-thru next time and answer emails in my car.

I have always had great experiences at Starbucks, and that has certainly raised the bar for what I expect when I go into one of their locations. That makes this location so remarkable and disappointing. On multiple occasions I have walked in and stood at the counter for quite a while waiting to be acknowledged, let alone helped. There are a bunch of people working behind the counter, but they all have headsets on, and it's pretty obvious the priority is the drive-through. However the one time I used the drive-through, I got a lecture at the window on how to properly order my americano. No thanks, I'd rather go anywhere else.

About the nicest Starbucks staff I've met thus far in the US (the service in Japan is unparalled). The staff are always friendly and cheery. The consistancy in the drinks is better here than most other Starbucks as well. I really hate getting a cold or lukewarm latte, or getting cheaped out of the adequate amount of espresso. As an added bonus they are close to my home so I find myself coming here a lot. I really like the comfy chairs they have as well. This Starbucks is open pretty late as well, 11PM or later each day, which fits my nightowl schedule. And like Michael G. said, its freeway accessible, so you can get your drink on before your commute.

Nice staff, tasty drinks. This place can get a little crowded if you're there to get some work done. They do have a drive-thru which is nice if you're picking up a drink before you hop on I-75. Only drawback which is chain wide is that the drinks are not cheap!
